I had the item shipped to a close store since it was unavailable in the store. I received the item and installed new batteries. The device would not turn on. Luckily, I have tools to fix the malfunction. I saw the conducting pieces did not have contact with the battery to heat the wire. I soldered the contacts together at a permanent "on" position. The device worked and I was able to shape the styrofoam to make my daughter's cosplay. In order to turn off the device, I have to unscrew the bottom of the wire assembly to break continuity with the battery. Overall, the item worked great. It just took extra work for the device to operate properly. It would be a better item if it was operated as a plug-in device with the option to disconnect the plug-in cable for battery power operation. My hot glue gun operates like that. I use it in my workshop, and on the road at comic cons.
I like the extra wire in the base That is I deal. Works well
great for crafter use
I've been looking for this styrofoam cutter for a long time. It works great. Just be care that the switch is really off. My original cutter had a lever that moved sideways so there wasn't much chance of it starting up. With this one being a flashlight type on and off switch, it made me nervous and I didn't want to start a fire if the switch moved. Solution?...after use, I removed one of the batteries.
Nothing was connected inside. Had to solder all wires myself. Finaly got it to work, but very slow. Battery drained in 2 hrs of work.
Product came as advertised. Works well. Only needs a stand to keep from damaging surfaces in between use.
